Blog #3 Realizations

Estella realization is more expressing how she feels. her thoughts on miss Havisham were always there, she just let it out. However, she does realize her effect on men. She does not do anything to ease the troubles she causes them but she knows what she does as a result of miss Havisham's teachings. Her outburst of this realization occurs in her fiery conversation with miss Havisham. Her growing up is heavily shown in this conversation from her lack of emotion and blame on miss Havisham. Pip's realization is that he is not the sparkle of Estella's eye. At first he thought he had a special place in her heart but he is beginning to feel that she is absent of one. She gave him previous warning but he more or less ignored them. He is upseted by the fact that she has danced with Drummle on occasion. This realization has caused him to be more jealous. I believe that although Estella probably will not drastically change, She will be softened by Pip for she expresses an interest in him. She calls him by name and relies on him for company. I feel that Pip may be blinded by his infatuation and end up doing something incredibly foolish. I infer this because Pip says that his story has gone past it's high point.

  1. I agree with both of these realizations. Estella's isn't much of a realization. She just let loose all of her feelings about Miss Havisham that she has been holding in since she was a child. Pip realized that his thoughts about him and Estella being together are only dreams and that they are meant to be together. This has not stopped him from pursuing her though. He won't give up until he dies and may even end up being with her after all. Both of the realizations won't change much in the grand scheme of things, but its the little changes that can bring Estella and Pip closer or pull them further apart.

  2. I agree with you 100% about Pip, he is blinded by his infatuation with Estella, almost to the point of obsession.

I think Estella wants to love Pip and that her realization is that Miss Havisham has made her cold, which you did mention. Once Estella realizes this she then takes out the emotion of this realization.

  3. I agree with both your realizations. For Estella's I agree that she has been feeling this way her whole life about Miss Havisham, although she never thought she could tell her. Now that shes is older she has finally told her how she feels. Also I agree that she knows her effect on men. Earlier in the book she even warned Pip that she was raised to break men's hearts and that she didn't want to tease him around like she did others.

  4. I think that you are right about both of your realizations. As a kid you are able to hold on to things for only so long. This is what Estella was feeling growing up with Miss Havisham, and finally the bubble burst. She finally was able to let out her real feelings about her. With Pip and Estella it seems to me that Pip is trying to pursue this more than Estella is trying to. Pip his whole life has been trying to go after Estell and has never been able to let her go. Though out the book he tries to explain how he thinks that he keeps having better chances. The one realization that he has to have though is what he is doing can end up good, or very bad.
