Blog #3 Realizations

Estella realization is more expressing how she feels. her thoughts on miss Havisham were always there, she just let it out. However, she does realize her effect on men. She does not do anything to ease the troubles she causes them but she knows what she does as a result of miss Havisham's teachings. Her outburst of this realization occurs in her fiery conversation with miss Havisham. Her growing up is heavily shown in this conversation from her lack of emotion and blame on miss Havisham. Pip's realization is that he is not the sparkle of Estella's eye. At first he thought he had a special place in her heart but he is beginning to feel that she is absent of one. She gave him previous warning but he more or less ignored them. He is upseted by the fact that she has danced with Drummle on occasion. This realization has caused him to be more jealous. I believe that although Estella probably will not drastically change, She will be softened by Pip for she expresses an interest in him. She calls him by name and relies on him for company. I feel that Pip may be blinded by his infatuation and end up doing something incredibly foolish. I infer this because Pip says that his story has gone past it's high point.

The Personality of Estella blog #2

The book shows in a clear light the first impression of Estella. She is portrayed as a rather rude, untouchable beauty.
"Miss Havisham watched us all the time, directed my attention to Estella's beauty, and made me notice it the more by trying her jewels on Estella's breast and hair."
This quote pertains directly to her beauty

"Estella, for her part, likewise treated me as before; except that she did not condescend to speak. When we had played some halfdozen games, a day was appointed for my return, and I was taken down into the yard to be fed in the former dog-like manner. There, too, I was again left to wander about as I liked."
This quote pertains to her distance and rudeness

The origins of her name are Latin. Stella means star in the Latin language. This I find is very similar to the personality of Estella. Like a star, Estella is distancing herself from pip. She possesses great beauty but lacks the 'lady like qualities to back it up. In my opinion, i believe there is more to Estella than just beauty and arrogance. I think there will be more of her for pip to find out. a star in distant view is hard to look at in detail. we can tell it is beautiful but we need to be closer to see it's true nature. Relating to how pip views Estella, she truly is a star. Pip feels that she is untouchable and that he, a common boy, is not worthy of conversing with her. I think that Estella will have more of herself to show later in the book and like a star to pip, she will possess him with her beauty and revealed personality.
